The majority of non-race vehicles connect suspension and subframe components via rubber bushes. The main reason for the use of a rubber bush is its low manufacturing cost and its natural absorbance of noise and vibration. A new car will handle well and be smooth over rough roads. Unfortunately when you get out on the track the limits of standard bushes become all to apparent. On a track you may be lucky enough to generate 1G of handling (or a lot more if you have downforce!). This means that a force equivalent to the weight of your car is generated. These huge loads mean the standard bushes flex and wear very quickly. This results in a loss of suspension geometry and a vague floating sensation. You really don’t feel connected to the track or the car. Through a high speed bend standard bushes really do test your courage!

Uprated Powerflex Poly Bushes (Polyurethane) and Whiteline Plus Bushes (a step on from conventional poly bushes) are available that will increase the rigiditiy of the suspension location and in turn dramatically improve handling response and indeed even outright speed round a bend owing to better geometry under duress. Anti-roll bar bushes will make the anti-roll bar more effective as well.

Poly bushes are long lasting, hence they actually bring benefits not only to handling but also save you money in the long run. Some cars get through their original rubber arms alarmingly quickly - Alfa 156 is a good example.

As well as Whiteline Plus bushes we sell both the Powerflex Purple and also Black shore 95 bushes - Powerflex Black Bushes will make the ride harsher but also bring even better geometry control and feedback.

All out race vehicles will look to "rose" jointed suspension mounts, which essentially are direct metal-to-metal connections via a bearing surface. Owing to the maintenance requirements of these joints and in addition the harsh ride, they probably not as suited to a car that spends most of its time on the road. However for that fair weather only track car that drives to the circuit, they should be considered.
